Lockington is a member of the Beverley Cluster of Extended Schools.

By 2010 all children, young people and families should be able to access a range of extended services in, around or through schools. This represents a key way schools can help to deliver the Every Child Matters outcomes.

Government guidance makes it clear that schools do not have to provide all extended services by themselves on their own sites, but should work in partnership with other agencies and organisations to deliver access to extended services in their area.

Extended Services fall into four categories called the Core Offer as follows:

Varied Menu of Activities

For children and young people to access a varied menu of activities on a voluntary basis, including study support, sports, arts, drama and music. Core Offer differs for Primary and Secondary schools.*

Swift and Easy Access

For children and young people to access a wide range of specialist services related to health and emotional well-being, particularly those identified as having additional needs or at risk of poor outcomes.

Parenting Support

For parents to access information sessions and advice, family learning opportunities, parenting courses, and other informal opportunities to engage with schools.

Community Use

For the wider community to use suitable school facilities in the evenings and holidays and have access to adult learning programmes.

* Varied Menu differences:

In Primary Schools: to be combined with access to childcare (8am-6pm, 48 weeks a year.)

In secondary schools: a safe place to be (8am-6pm in term-time, and more flexibly in holidays.)

      There are three Extended Schools Co-Ordinators who work for all of the primary and secondry schools in the Beverley area.  Their role is to help schools plan, develop, manage and maintain extended school services.  Last year they undertook a detailed consultation with parents, pupils and the wider community about what services were needed in the local area.  Over 900 parents, 1500 pupils and local groups and partners gave their views on what extended services were needed in the Beverley area.

The Extended Schools Team:  Lisa Deeming, Shane Thurlow and Jacky Smith

Shane Thurlow one of the Co-Ordinators said: ' The research showed a number of key areas for development including, activities for children in the summer holidays, community access to school sports facilities, information and support for parents and safer places for children to go.'

Jacky Smith said:  'All the Beverley Schools are committed to providing access to additional services for the local community.  They are working together to develop extended services and activities that address the additional needs identified in this research.  We work with schools and local partners to deliver extended services and identify funding opportunities.'

Lisa Deeming continued: ' Some of the projects we are currently working on include a Positive Transitions project for Year 6 pupils, one off workshops to support parents around key topics, a 7 week course for parents called Moving on to Secondary School, a Dads and Kids club and a range of family learning, school holiday and youth diversionary activities.'
